Course Content (Syllabus)
The understanding of the birth and configuration ot the Byzantine Empire. The critical approach of the major events and the reasons that lead to the decline and the fall of the Byzantine Empire.

Week #4 From Rome to Constantinople. Great Constantine and the establishment of the new capital. The factors of the Byzantine History. Political theory and ideology.
Week #5 Special features and synopsis of the period (324-565): External enemies, internal history, heresies, Ecumenical Synods
Week #6 Special features and synopsis of the period (565-867): The situation and enemies in the Balkans, the West and the East. The appearance of Arabs and the threat of Constantinople, the Isaurian dynasty, Iconoclasm
Week #7 The Macedonian dynasty (867-1025): The victorious campaigns against the Arabs and the Bulgars. Legislation, the problem of the growth of private land estate. Special features and survey of the period (1025-1081)
Week #8 The Comnenian and the Angelos dynastyi (1081-1204): New enemies, Crusades and the capture of Constantinople (1204)
Week #9 Special features and survey of the period (1204-1453): The peripheral Byzantine States, the recapture of Constantinople and the Ottoman expansion
