Learning Outcomes
Students acquire basic theoritical and historical knowledge on city planning and development issues. The course is an introduction to the urban phenomenon and the evolution of the cities and provides an understanding of the emergence and the evolution of town planning. The course examines the concepts, the theoretical approaches, the models and policies, the mechanisms and procedures for the formation and design of the urban space before and after the emergence of town planning as a distinct scientific discipline.

2.Evolution of the urban phenomenon: from the walled to endless city
3.History of the city: from the ancient ages up to Renaissance
4.History of the city: from the Renaissance up to 1940
5.Post war urban development and planning: Urban planning of the welfare state
6.Urban development and policies of urban renewal: Urban planning in the last 30 years
7.The modern-Greek city and town planning in Greece up to 1940
8.Urban development and planning in Greece in the postwar period
8.Evolutionary analysis of the city and main planning theories
9.Central issues of urban planning
10.Urban plans as tools for planning and regulating urban development
11.Contemporary issues in the design of cities
12.Urban development and Urban Planning:Review of the basic themes of the course
