Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
Students should be familiarized to the byzantine wall painting and icon painting and to basic elements of byzantine monumental topography. Moreover they should know about writing essays from their undergraduate courses. They should
understand at least two foreign languages in order to proceed with the acquired bibliography.
Learning Outcomes
Students are orally examined during courses with questions, brief exercises, article discussions and essay presentations.
Presentations are also organised in monuments and in museums.
The aforementioned help the students to familiarize with the subject of their study and with the scientific thought and writing.
Τhe writing of an essay help them to comprehend their researching abilities.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The courses concern the teaching of special topics of the monumental painting and of icon painting from thw second half of the 14th until the end of the 15th c. Regions as Constantinople, Thessaloniki, westwern Macedonia, Mystras and the serbian area of Morava are examined comparatively and evolutionary. The development of the painting is combined to the political and theological parameters of the period. In every thematic course a different region is examined and relevant articles are analysed. In the end of each thematic period there are written exercises. Two courses take part in the museum and in a byzantine church. The three ultimate courses are dedicated to the presentations of the semester essays of the students.
