Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to comprehend: - the biological cycle of plants - plant structure and their mechanisms of survival - the basic system of international classification of plants and the methods of propagation. The morphological characteristics of the plants and their cultivation methods are described and general advice is given for a successful planting and use in open spaces, depending on their use in different environments.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Contents, course objectives The biological cycle of the plant and elements of the physiology, growth and development are discussed. Organization and function of a nursery. Methods of production of plant propagation material. Cultivation of ornamental plants and their use in the open. Classification of ornamental plants in different categories as: annuals and biennial plants, evergreen and deciduous woody plants (shrubs and trees), climbing plants and grasses. For every ornamental species the botanical and morphological characteristics, the methods of propagation, the climate and soil requirements, the season and the duration of flowering, the pests and diseases are described. Their uses in landscape architecture are discussed
