Learning Outcomes
Students who attend the course are expected to: analyze the structure of the literary, epigraphic, papyrological and numismatical evidence, compare and correlate the data. understand the meaning of the texts/coins and the historical context, toa translate and make historical commentary on the texts. assess the value of the evidence of the sources practice their skills using the information of the sources for writing a historical essay actively participate in the discussion of scientific problems with the tutor.

Week 1.Kinds of sources Week 2. The distinctive character of each category and ways of reading. Reliability of sources, impartiality and objectivity. Week 3. Ancient Greek Historiography Week 4. Ancient Greek Historiography Week 5. Ancient Greek literary sources (besides Historiography) Week 6. Greek Epigraphy Week 7. Greek Epigraphy Week 8. Papyrology Week 9. Numismatics Week 10. Latin Historiography Week 11. Latin Historiography Week 12. Latin Epigraphy Week 13. Oral presentation of brief reports by the students.

Student Assessment
Students will have to study weekly specific book chapters and articles (in Greek or English) related to the study of the sources and present, orally or in written, brief reports of their critical reading. They will also have to study and comment on specific sources. Students' evaluation will depend on their presentations, their ability to argue and to answer complicated questions based on bibliography and the relevant sources.
