Learning Outcomes
The students who will successfully complete the course are able to:
-read Arabic with some facility
-prepare independently the reading of short paragraphs using vocabulary lists
-submit simple written assignments on topics of everyday life
-recognise and make use of more complex grammatical structures
-attempts the composing of sentences of more complex composition
-participate in small oral dialogues
(chatting with another traveller on the airplane)
and give small oral presentations on the same topics
-recognize a vocabulary of some 800 words and use orally and in writing a significant percentage of it
Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of the course is to deep in the knowledge of classical Arabic language by students who have already completed two semesters of language learning and are now in the third one. More specifically, during the course, the study of the Arabic verb, its smooth and derivative forms, the passive voice, the hypothetical speech, will be completed in order to enter into the end of the study of the irregular verbs. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand and correctly interpret Greek texts from the classical Arab-Islamic literature, as well as short Quran sures (chapters) or extracts of larger sures.
