Learning Outcomes
With the successful completion of this course, the students will have acquired knowledge of
Greek theological literature of the Post-Byzantine and Modern Ecclesiastical periods, based
on the sources in order to become competent in their knowledge of the figures of the
Fathers and Church Writers (i.e. of their life, work, and teaching) in examination, who
shaped the theological thought in the aforementioned time period, and to work out and
comprehend theological and philosophical concepts in modern theological texts. It is also an
aim for the students to be able to use the ecclesiastical sources of the Post-Byzantine period
and to acquire a knowledge of related works.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Familiarity with the Ecclesiastical literature of the post-byzantine period until today.
The course aims at consolidating the life, work and teaching of the Fathers and Ecclesiastical writers of the period after the Fall. (from 1453 and on).
The scope of the course is the life, the writings and the teaching of the Fathers and the Ecclesiastical writers who acted in the years after the Fall of Constantinople up to today.
The relevant historical, philological and mainly theological issues are encountered, opening up to new perspectives and important reviews for research.
A thorough analysis and anatomy of the Fathers’ and Ecclesiastical writers’ thinking is attempted. Under this thinking, the theological thinking was developed and evolved, in comparison to the preceding Fathers and Ecclesiastical writers.

6. Representatives of piety. Theology of the years of enlightenment.
7. Greek Theology. Dogmatists of the 16th century. (life – work – teaching). Enotikoi (life – work – teaching).
8. The struggle of Confessions (1590 – 1752). Writers of the Confessions (life – work – teaching). Apostles of the Nations (life- work – teaching).
9. The Theologians from seat of the 17th century (life – work – teaching). Orthologistes 16th – 19th century. (life – work – teaching). Monks of Athos (life – work – teaching).
10. Greek Theology of the 19th century.
11. Interpretation of the Fathers’ works in Turkish rule period.
12. Interpretation of the Fathers’ works in the Turkish rule period.
