Learning Outcomes
Before the completion of this course each student should be able to: 1. Understand and display knowledge on advanced topics of the physics of sound and waves, with a focus in music-related disciplines 2. Apply knowledge about these concepts into practical domains, and in solving problems, 3. Develop knowledge about related contemporary research methodology 4. Understand the value of interdisciplinary approaches in the study of music.
General Competences
  • Apply knowledge in practice
  • Work autonomously
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Advance free, creative and causative thinking
Course Content (Syllabus)
This course reviews topics taught in the introductory course on Musical Acoustics and expands to more focused topics including: 1. Auditory Physiology & Psychoacoustics (perception of sound level, isophonic curves, loudness level, timbre perception, masking effect etc.) 2. Electroacoustics & Room Acoustics (A,B,C,D filters, sound absorption, absorption index of materials, reverberation time etc.) 3. Microphone characteristics (sensitivity, frequency response, directivity etc.).
