Learning Outcomes
After the succesful completion of the course, the students are expected to: • Identify and interprete the principal geological attributes at the site of a planned engineering project • Understand the principal pollutant propagation both at underground terrain and underground aquifer • evaluate the deposition site for solid and liquid waste • conduct hazard assessment due to natural hazards
General Competences
  • Apply knowledge in practice
  • Retrieve, analyse and synthesise data and information, with the use of necessary technologies
  • Make decisions
  • Work autonomously
  • Work in teams
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Design and manage projects
  • Respect natural environment
Course Content (Syllabus)
Investigation of geological formations. Investigation of underground aquifer. Qualitative evaluation of aquifers. Water as the main medium of pollutants propagation. Propagation mechanisms of pollutants. Numerical analysis of underground pollutants travel. Storage of solid and liquid waste (urban and other). Geological and geotechnical evaluation criteria of waste deposition sites. Natural (mainly geological) hazards. Magnitudes and indexes related to hazard. Numerical and empirical models for susceptibility and hazard assessment from natural hazards. Management of natural hazards.
