Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course the students:
-Are able to explain the reasons for the differentiation obtained when a laboratory material synthesis process is being transferred to a large scale production process
-Are able to propose appropriate changes in the functional process parameters so that identical material properties are obtained between a laboratory process and a large scale industrial production process.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Ιn the first group of lectures a basic solids synthesis process composed of several process steps is taken. For every process step a technological description is given and subsequently the differences are discussed when the same process step from a laboratory level is tranferred to a large scale level.
Subsequently the discussion focuses on the interactions between the various process steps and the consequences that might have in a large scale production potential disturbances in one of those process steps.
Finally within the context of the course the criteria for the formation of industrial R&D proposals are discussed as well as their differences from general research proposals. The general subject of the existing gap between research and production is also part of this discussion.
