EXCEPT FOR MATHEMATICS THERE ARE NO OTHER EXTRA PREREQUISITES. IF OPERATIONS RESEARCH WAS DELIVERED EARLIER MIGHT BE OF SOME ASSISTANCE. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT NECESSARY.
Learning Outcomes
STUDENTS SHALL LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT IN ANY COMPANY, PRODUCTION ANDOR SERVICES AND THE REQUIRED SKILLS THE OPERATIONS MANAGER NEEDS TO ACQUIRE IN ORDER TO MANAGE EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY THE NOWADAYS COMPANY IN THE NEW BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT WITH GLOBAL OPERATIONS AND LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY NETWORKS.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Aim of the course: The introduction to operations management for producing both products and services. Modern approaches to important problems such as product selection and design, capacity design and other tasks that imply a large amount of resources and affect the effectiveness and performance of the whole operations.
Contents of the course per week
INTRODUCTION
(Week 1) Operations Management: Introduction, Organization of the course and assignment of case studies to the students.
(Week 2) Operations performance and Operations strategy.
DESIGN
(Week 3) Process design and the Design of products and services.
(Week 4) Supply network design and Layout and flow.
(Week 5) Process technology and People, jobs and organization. Work study.
PLANNING AND CONTROL
(Week 6) The nature of planning and control and Capacity planning and control.
(Week 7) Inventory planning and control and Supply chain planning and control.
(Week 8) Enterpise resource planning (ERP) and Materials requirements planning (MRP).
(Week 9) Lean operations, and synchronization and Just-In-time Systems (JIT). JIT Game.
(Week 10) Project planning and control. Quality management and Total quality management (TQM).
(Week 11) Statistical process control (SPC) and Operations improvement.
(Week 12) Risk management, Organizing for improvement and Operations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
(Week 13) Case studies from Greek and foreign firms and their presentation by the students. Course summary.
