Course Content (Syllabus)
The topic of this course is Language Processing which lies in the area of Experimental Linguistics and Applied Psycholinguistics. It is studied how humans comprehend and produce words and sentences as well as which mechanisms come into play during these processes. More specifically, in the word level the following topics are examined: lexical recognition, lexical ambiguity and morphological processing of inflectional and derived words. Moreover, the mechanism which is responsible for sentence processing (parser) is analyzed and the strategies the parser obeys as well as the factors that affect it are presented. Special emphasis is given on the methodology employed in the studies that investigate language processing and on the theoretical models that provide accounts of the experimental findings.
