Course Content (Syllabus)
Fossilization and fossiliferous deposits (for non-geologists - common with PO1). Introduction to the principles and rules of taxonomic nomenclature of animal organisms - concept of paleontological species, morphospecies (common with PO1). Basic anatomy / morphology of skeletal elements of all vertebrate phyla from the Cambrian to the present day (Sponges, Cnidozoa, Brachiopods, Bryozoa, Molluscs, Arthropods, Echinoderms). Adaptive characteristics, assemblages and living environments - lithogenesis. Biometric methods and instrumentation, biometric data collection (common with PO1). Application of biometrics and morphometrics in invertebrate systematics.
