Course Content (Syllabus)
Description of general characteristics of chemical elements of periodic table. Hydrogen and isotopes. Oxygen and oxides. Description (abundance, preparation, chemical properties, uses) of alkalis and alkaline earths and their compounds. Description, properties of compounds of boron, carbon, silicon, nitrogen, phosphorous, oxygen and sulfur. Abundance, preparation, chemical properties, uses and compounds of elements of groups 13-17 of periodic table. Noble gases and compounds. Metals and metallurgy. Abundance, preparation, chemical properties, uses and compounds of transition metal elements (groups 3-12 of periodic table).
Safety in the lab. Instructions to use the instrumentation, to monitor the experimental data and to evaluate the results. Use of laboratory techniques and conditions for the synthesis, isolation and identification of inorganic compounds. Classification of chemical reactions. Synthesis and isolation of salts. Synthesis and isolation of ala. Synthesis and isolation of alkali and alkaline earths salts. Synthesis and isolation of compounds of group 13 and 14 elements. Tin halides. Synthesis of lead, arsenic and antimony. Synthesis and isolation of chromium, copper and cobalt compounds.
