Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to
• get familiar with contemporary Greek History from 1897 to 2000
• be able to evaluate different scholarly approaches to the making of the Greek nation
• acquire in-depth knowledge of special subjects (political, social, diplomatic, economic) within the thematic unit
• develop further their critical and synthetic abilities to produce written work with the use of sources and bibliography
• improve their ability to assess and evaluate historical questions through the construction of appropriate arguments
• become familiar with interdisciplinary approaches to the thematic unit

Course Content (Syllabus)
The tehmatic unit examines the evolution of Greek society, economy and politics during the 2oth cent., from 1897 natioanl defeat to Greece's entrance to eurozone. It focuses on key moments and personalities of national history; economic crises; the evolution of national identity and major moments of defeat and their consequences into international and internal politics.
