THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE BIOLOGIC REACTIONS THAT TAKE PLACE IN DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT AND THE CONDITIONS THAT COULD AFFECT THIS PROCESS IN HEALTH AND DISEASE.

Course Content (Syllabus)
A semestrial course aiming to explore and understand the biologic foundation of modern implantology. The course explores the following chapters: 1. evolutionof dental implants safety regulations 2. histology and physiology of bone 3. biology of osseointegration and morphology of periimplant tissues 4. materials for dental implants focusing on titanium properties 5. macro and micro architecture of dental implants 6. biology of bone reactions during the evolution of osseointegration 7. microphenomeno on the surface of the dental implants during the process of osseointegration 8. infection of periimplant tissues 9. biomechanics of implant restoration 10. risk factors in implantology 11. prognosis, survival and success of dental implant The course is supported by a book: George Makris “Biology of dental Implants” pp. 1-551, University Studio Press -2005. Small research projects are encouraged through the semester.
