Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: -describe the theories and underlying biological mechanisms of aging, why we age -recognize the structure and function of the various cells, tissues, organs and physiological systems of the human body during aging -understand the biological, morphological and functional alterations/adaptations observed in the human body during aging -evaluate the effect of exercise and nutrition on the physiological adaptations observed during aging

-Introduction - What is aging - Healthy/Active aging - Longevity -Aging as a normal biological process - Theories of aging - Special topics -Changing eating habits as you age - Nutrition of the elderly -Biological, morphological and functional adaptations of the various systems -The effect of exercise and diet on physiological adaptations to aging -Circulatory System -Respiratory system -Skeletal system -Nervous system -Muscle system -Endocrine system-Metabolism -Digestive system -Urinary system -Sensory organs

Description
The evaluation and progress of the students will be achieved by the: a) PowerPoint presentation of a scientific article (60% of the final grade) b) final written examination (40% of the final grade) in the: i) PowerPoint presentations of the scientific articles of all students ii) course textbook material (Joan Vernikos, Robin Hosie. The G-Connection: Harness Gravity and Reverse Aging, chapters 1, 10, 11, 12, Epilogue)
