Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: -Describe the fundamental aspects of the byzantine empire art -Analye the development stages of christianity and the cultural influences that affected it -Explore the social and historical context of the material culture of Byzantium -Evaluate the developing forms of arts in all fields of artistic creation -Value the importance of art as a mean of theological expression

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the Art of Early Christian, Byzantine, Middle Byzantine and Late Byzantine period. Architecture, monumental painting (frescoes, mosaics), sculpture, minor arts, illuminated manuscripts
