Learning Outcomes
After the course student are able to:
a) to know the wider geopolitical and historical environment of the Balkan countries during the 20th century and to form an opinion about the protagonists of political developments.
b) understand in depth the historical phenomena that accompany the creation of the Third Yugoslavia in 1990.
c) practice their historical crisis through the very events that have characterized the identity of the South Slavic countries in both their independent historical and European course.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course presents the course of the Slavic peoples in the Balkans from the 6th century, their political and cultural evolution to emphasize the events that stigmatized these peoples in modern times, reaching the 20th century. Central political event was the creation of Yugoslavia in 1918 with the establishment of the Kingdom of Serbian Croats and Slovenes and the developments it experienced and eventually disintegrated in 1990. One of the factors that played a significant role in these developments was the religious one. The dominant religious communities are therefore examined: the Serbian Patriarchate, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Croatia and the Muslim Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of religious-political relations during the period of Broz Tito's socialist regime with both Christian and Muslim leaderships.

Recorded documentaries-films of approved radio and television programs (BBC, etc.) and audiovisual material in general are also shown.

Description
Students are assessed on the basis of oral questions that are asked both during their physical presence in teaching and during the scheduled exam time. They must be aware of all the historical, geographical, social and religious conditions set by the subject.
