It is expected that through this course students will: - understand the potential of Land Surveying and Geodesy in documenting the geometrical properties of the natural and the built environment. - gain experience in the basic use of surveying instruments and the processing of surveying data. - practice in solving basic land surveying problems. - get acquainted with basic cartographic and geodetic concepts and with the Greek geodetic reference systems.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Surveying and Geodesy. Instruments and measurement methods (angles, distances, heights). Coordinate systems. Geodetic and geographic coordinates. Datum. Ellipsoid. Geoid. Projections. Representations and projection systems in Greece. Topographical space and its representation. Point determination. Rectangular and polar coordinates. Fundamental surveying problems. Traverse. Area calculation. Topographic maps and diagrams. Map scale and accuracy. Map use. Developments in instruments technology and measurements. GPS.
