Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students:
- will have understood how tourism interacts with economic development and the natural environment.
- will have been trained in methods and models of tourism area morphology and tourism area evolution (life cycle models)
- will be able to recognize the impact of tourism on the economy, the environment, and the local society.
- will be familiar with the theory and policy of sustainable tourism development (STD) as well as with the main planning principles of STD.
- will be able to use the tools for STD
- will have understood the role of alternative tourism in sustainable rural development.

- Tourism quality and standards.
- Alternative tourism in rural areas.
- Agro-tourism, eco-tourism, spa and wellness tourism, wine tourism.
- Relationship between the tourism industry and the local economy, environment and society.
- The effect (impact) of tourism on natural and built environment.
- Environmental and tourism policies (principles and policies for sustainable tourism development, applications in typical tourist areas).
- Institutions, policy-makers and policy instruments related to the tourist sector.
- Tourism planning theory and practice.
