Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
-report the history of space exploration and manned space projects
-describe the biological, morphological and functional changes, acute responses and chronic adaptations observed in the human body under microgravity conditions, such as during space flight and living in space or in simulated microgravity conditions on earth (eg bed rest, aging)
-recognize the structure and understand the underlying mechanisms of the various organs and systems of the human body in microgravity conditions in space
-evaluate the beneficial role of exercise and nutrition as countermeasures in counteracting the adverse effects of microgravity and space flight on the human body
Course Content (Syllabus)
-Introduction - Space flight, microgravity, living in zero g environment in space - Similarities and differences with aging, bedrest, detraining - Gravity is our friend
-The history of space exploration - Space Race to the Moon - Manned space programs
- Space Stations - Life on the International Space Station. The International Space Station as an experimental research laboratory 400 km above the earth
-Hygiene - Sleep - Nutrition – Exercise - Health in the International Space Station
-Biological, morphological and functional alterations, acute responses and chronic adaptations, of human body in space
-Alterations in human body systems: Circulatory, Respiratory, Skeletal, Nervous, Muscle, Endocrine-Metabolism, Digestive, Urinary, Sensory organs
Keywords
space, microgravity, acute responses, chronic adaptations, exercise, nutrition, human body
Description
Communication with students through the e-learning service (elearning). Posting of relevant educational material, information and announcements regarding the course (eg, scientific papers, PowerPoint presentations, internet lectures by scientists / researchers specializing in aging, links to video animations, interactive exercises).
