Course Content (Syllabus)
Principles of radiochemistry. Radioactivity. Radioactive decay, α., β. and γ.decay. Radioactive equilibrium. Interaction of the nuclear radiation with the matter. The measurement of the nuclear radiation. Nuclear reactions. Natural radioactivity. Radioactive elements in the environment. Uranium and applications. Methods for determination of radioactive elements. Nuclear wastes treatment. Radiochemical and nuclear methods of analysis (radioanalytical chemistry). Neutron activation analysis, x-rays fluorescence. Radioactive tracers. Radioactive dating methods. Production of radioisotopes-Radiopharmacy. Application of radioisotopes and radiations in the chemistry, medicine, biology and technology. The biological effects of the nuclear radiation and radioprotection. Laboratory : Detection and measurement of nuclear radiation, measurement statistics, dead- time determination, absorption of nuclear radiation by the matter, alpha- and gamma-ray spectroscopy, natural radioactivity, determination of uranium and thorium. XRF, NAA, kinetics study by radiotracers
