Learning Outcomes
Students are able to know many children's books and at the same time the relevant theories of children's book criticism. So, in addition to the experience they acquire as readers of children's books (necessary for their work in Kindergarten) they are trained in critical and interdisciplinary management of texts for children.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on 1) showing how the child acts as a reader of literary texts 2) how the young child appears as a hero of literary stories 3) what are the procedures for identifying the reader with the heroes of literary stories for young children 4)what are the basic structural elements of literary stories for young children and the literary genres for them. Specific issues addressed: Emotions and first conflicts: Families and young children. Big problems for little heroes. Authoritarian relations and small literary characters Loss, disorder, mourning in books for young children Violence in books for young children Trauma. Holocaust and Children's Literature. Diversity and disability in children's books for preschool children. Child and play in children's literature Literary young child and art. What is children's literature for young children? Reader-player The narrative elements of the texts for children. Plot, characters, theme, structure, perspective and narrator, backdrop. Intertextuality. Fairy tale Folk tale: definition, characteristic types of folk tales, structure. The psychoanalytic approach to fairy tales. Features of the Greek folk tale. The storytellers in Greece. History of fairy tales. The value of the fairy tale. The modern or art fairy tale Short story Illustrated children's books and picturebooks Knowledge books
