Course Content (Syllabus)
Τhe course is at the crossroads of two scientific fields: media education that is about teaching and learning about the media (Buckingham, 2003) but also media literacy that concerns skill acquisition and decoding of the media messages. Οne of the most significant aims of the course is students to get acquainted with up to date communication theory and research of traditional and new media and to understand and deeply realize the ways they can use media for preschool children as mediums to enlarge their conception of the world and especially society but at the same time as channels of learning. The course after introducing students to the basic theory on media education and media literacy, it will then focus on the analysis of audiovisual texts (press, advertisement, TV and radio production, cinema production, web pages etc). Furthermore, the course will focus on tv and radio productionand/ornewspaper publishing for pre school children.
