1. Knowledge regarding the basic principles of precision agriculture and will be familiar with the equipment of sensing and variable rate application.
2. Knowledge regarding the basic principles of resources conservation in agriculture and the implementation of them in agricultural production
3. Critical thinking on the decisions that should be taken in farm management under the concept of precision agriculture and resources conservation.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction in precision agriculture and resources conservation in agriculture. Basic principles and equipment of precision agriculture: GPS, sensors for recording the spatial variability of soil, crop and yield, variable rate technology for agrochemicals and water. Field management zones and prescription maps. Basic principles on resources, energy and materials conservation in agricultural production: Tractors navigation systems, bioclimatic design of agricultural building towards energy conservation, heat pumps use for space heating and cooling, resources recovery from agricultural residues and reuse in agricultural production. Benefits gained from precision agriculture and resources conservation. Case studies in Greece.
