Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1) understand the role of the genes and the meaning of inheritance
2) understand the principles of Mendelian, Population and Quantitative genetics and be able to solve exercises and problems relative to farm animals
3) understand the importance of selection and the use of molecular and biotectechnological approaches in farm animal breeding and conservation

Genetics: an introduction, Chromosomes: variations in their structure and number, Mendelian inheritance, Ιntroduction to population genetics, Quantitative genetics, Descriptive statistics of quantitative traits, Heritability, Genetic correlations, Estimation of genetic values in farm animals, Mating systems, Development of breeding programs, Use of biotechnology in farm animal breeding, Methods for the identification, conservation and management of farm animal breeds
