Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will:
1. have acquired basic knowledge of the mechanisms involved in the digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients in farm animals.
2. have deepened their understanding of the mechanisms governing nutrition, at the cellular level and its components (cellular nutrition).
3. have understood the current literature on the interpretation of mechanisms related to the nutritional value of feedstuffs and the nutritional requirements of farm animals
Course Content (Syllabus)
Inorganic nutrition (macronutrients, trace elements). Basic principles for assessing the nutritional value of feedstuffs (digestibility, energy & protein value of feedstuffs) and the normal nutritional requirements of farm animals for the various physiological functions (maintenance, development, reproduction, milk production, wool production, egg production, work production).
Keywords
nutrition, nutritional value, nutritional requirements, intermediate metabolism, material and energy balance, nutrition assessment systems of feedstuffs
