Course Content (Syllabus)
Sexual propagation of grapevines, clonal/mass selection. Asexual reproduction, graftings, in vitro propagation. Viticultural environment and effects on the quality of grapes and wine. Vineyard establishment, selection of plant density, row orientation, variety, rootstock. Major trellis systems in viticulture and evaluation according to soil and climate conditions. Vine support systems. Vine training. Winter pruning and seasonal canopy management techniques and their effect on quality. Growth regulators in viticulture. Water availability and its effect on vine physiology and grape development. Water deficit and drought conditions. Irrigation pronciples and scheduling. Grapevine nutrition, necessary elements for vine growth and development. Fertilization principles. Production of raisins.
