Learning Outcomes
The course addresses the basic principles of preschool education and the perceptions related to the development of psychomotor skills and the education of preschool children. The aim of the course is to teach and design appropriate motor play activities that enhance language, social, cognitive and motor skills, as well as the health and good physical condition of preschool children.
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
• understand the basic skills of psychomotor development so that they can plan a program of motor play activities based on the educational needs of preschool children.
• have knowledge of the instruments assessing the psychomotor development of preschool children so that they can assess the level of skills of each student and establish the objectives of the course.
• understand the effects of different environmental conditions (economic-social, educational level of parents) on the psychomotor development of children and to be able to offer an equal learning environment to all children.
• identify the different expectations of the social environment based on the sex of the child and the consequences for the development of their gross and fine motor skills.
• propose and implement appropriate physical education programs setting long-term and short-term goals that will meet the real requirements and capabilities of children of this age.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Preschool Education. The role of preschool education in child development. The role of Preschool Physical Education in motor development. Importance of acquiring correct motor patterns during the critical preschool age.
-Psychomotor therapy. Learning through movement. Learning motor activities in order to improve and control mobility, understanding body shape, concepts of space, time and rhythm.
- Exercise programs for the improvement and development of gross and fine motor skills.
Learning exercises for perception of body shape, distinction of the two body sides, orientation in space, visual and hearing perception.
The role of the teacher. Teaching methods. Play activities for team simulation.
- Movement paly activities. Play activities adaptied to the needs and abilities of preschool children.
- Plan and apply of a daily program (short-term and long-term goals, appropriate planning, activities according to the possibilities of the children and the available space, determination of intensity and duration, prioritization of materials according to the burden).
- Instruments and materials. Use of everyday materials in play and exercise activities. Adaptation of "fixed" and portable instruments suitable for preschool age.
