Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester the students will be able to:
1. understand the narrative techniques/choices a writer must follow in the process of the adaptation.
2. know and practice the techniques needed according to the initial text of adaptation: poem, lyrics, novel, theatrical play, history e.t.c
3. further comprehend the basic screenwriting elements.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Week 1: Introduction to the concept of adaptation, basic Theories / schools of adaptation (example, exersice).
Week 2: Transformational acts - the seven transformative acts (example, exersice).
Week 3: Building techniques (story I - the three operations, the catalyst, the scaling, the end of the work in progress and the script / story II - plot lines / intricacies / Characters - locating existing ones and creating / cutting / collapsing characters).
Week 4: Novel - Approach to the adaptation mechanisms of a novel / Theatrical work - Report on the adaptation mechanisms of a theatrical work. Biography / True Facts - Approaches to making a biography or true facts (example, exersice).
Week 5,7: Greek short stories / novels that have been adapted, Ant. Samarakis, Al. Papadiamantis, K. Theotokis (example, exersice).
Week 6:film festival
Week 7,8,9,10: Greek short stories / novels that have been adapted, Ant. Samarakis, Al. Papadiamantis, K. Theotokis.Foreign short stories, adapted novels, eg FS Fitzerald, “The Great Gatsby”, film: The Great Gatsby (example, exersice).
Weeks 11-12: Presentations of papers.

Student Assessment
Description
The final evaluation is according το the below:
1. the active participation at the courses 20% as bonus
2. the final written assignment, 50%
3. the presentation of it, 30% and the written assignments during the lessons, 20%.
The evaluation is the same for September 2023, as well.
