Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to: • Deepen in the first and the second Thermodynamic laws. • Develop the ability of analysis of processes with ideal and non-ideal gases (water vapor) • Understand the basic principles of energy and entropy balances • Practice in developing energy and entropy balances and especially in power and cooling cycles • Understand the basic principles of mixtures theory • Practice applying the theory of mixtures to air conditioning applications (using a psychometric diagram).
Course Content (Syllabus)
First law of thermodynamics. Energy balances. Ideal-real gases. Second law of thermodynamics. Entropy-entropy balances. Thermodynamic cycles (Carnot-Rankine-Brayton). Gas Mixtures –Psychrometry- Applications.
