Course Content (Syllabus)
The course analyses the dialectical relationship between war, the economy and the state. The complex relationship between economy, society, politics and war constitutes the lens through which we will examine: the role of state institutions and the economy in war, the effects of war on the state, the goals and means used in different types of war (total war, guerilla war, new wars) in the modern era as well as the strategies and tactics of wars and the role of technology. After a general theoretical and historical introduction, the course will focus on the study of examples from the two World Wars and the Cold War to the wars of today.
