Course Content (Syllabus)
The topic of this postgraduate elective course is connected to the fire protection design in historical buildings or buildings where cultural riches/artifacts are housed (such as monuments, museums, libraries, etc.), as well as in historical towns or ensembles. This course focuses in particular on how to meet fire prevention criteria that are derived from established regulatory frameworks or common construction practices and methods. In historical buildings, fire safety is designed to be performed by using both passive and active measures, similar to modern buildings. The consideration of fire protection, however, is subject to numerous restrictions or even compromises against the security of the users and the structure itself due to the unique characteristics of historical structures.
