Learning Outcomes
The students will get to know the history of the Eastern Question -especially the period of the 19th-early 20th century- and the effects of the Question on the Hellenism of the Pontus. They will familiarize themselves with the relevant literature and maps of the period.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines aspects of the Eastern Question in the 19th and 20th centuries, specifically everything related to the effort of the M. Powers to control parts of the Ottoman Empire, in which the presence of unredeemed Hellenism was demographically and economically intense and dynamic. More special reference is made to the penetration of the Great Powers into Asia Minor, with an emphasis on Pontus.
