Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students:
•will have acquired knowledge about Greek traditional costumes and traditional musical instruments,
•will be able to perform in practice at a very good level representative dances from all over Greece and Pontus
•will have understood the basic principles of didactics for teaching Greek Traditional Dances,
•will be able to apply in practice the basic principles of didactics for teaching the dances that will have been taught.

Course Content (Syllabus)
• The timeless course of Greek dance (the dance in Ancient Greece, in the Byzantine period, during the Turkish occupation, the Greek traditional dance today). Theoretical considerations on the concept of traditional dance and its definitions. Special features: a detailed approach to the principles governing traditional dance as a species. Structure and style: Examples and methodological approaches to style and structure. Principles of learning Greek traditional dance.
•Basic learning principles of Greek traditional dances.
• Greek traditional rhythms as the object of study of the whole teaching process. Rhythmic organization and improvisations. Greek folk horostasi: A detailed presentation of the dance events of traditional life. Greek traditional attires. Musical instruments.
• The learning of dances from dippartments of mainland Greece (Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, Thessaly, Peloponnese) and Pontos.
•The learning of dances from Greek islands (Aegean islands, Ionian islands, Crete) and Cyprus.

Student Assessment
Description
The assessment is based on students' regular and active participation in the course (10%), midterm exams (20%) and oral, written and practical exams at the end of the semester (70%).The criteria are communicated to the students in the first lesson.
