General Prerequisites
Knowledge regarding dental morphology and terminology. Ability to reform the tooth surfaces.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students should be able to understand: 1. the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment plan and prevention of dental caries and non-carious lesions, 2. the utilization and terminology of the instruments used in Operative Dentistry, 3. how the dental history is filled, 4. apply appropriate tooth preparation guidelines for simple and direct composite resin restorations, 5. acquire basic treatment planning skills and decide on preventive or restorative treatment options.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Lectures: 1. Morphology and physical-mechanical properties of hard dental tissues 2. Dental caries - Examination and diagnosis 3. Classification of carious lesions - ICDAS II - Classification of tooth cavities 4. Caries risk assessment - Treatment plan 5. Early stage of caries lesions - Sealants - Conservative cavity preparations 6. Introduction to cavity preparation instruments - Caries removal 7. Histopathology - Progress stages - Clinical types of dental caries 8. Management of patients with rampant caries 9. Non-carious lesions of dental tissues 10. Developmental dental lesions - Tooth malformations - Tooth discolorations Laboratory excercises: 1. Identification of natural teeth 2. Diagnosis of dental caries - Dental history (ICDAS II) - DMF 3. Classification of tooth cavities 4. Caries risk assessment - Treatment plan - Preventive measures 5. Dental sealants application 6. Education on cavity preparation instruments use and caries removal 7. Preparation of conservative cavities for flowable composite resin 8. Preparation of class I cavities for composite resin 9. Preparation of class V cavities for composite resin
