Learning Outcomes
1. Understand the basic characteristics, new approaches and applications of Genetic Research into Plant Breeding 2. Learn different methods of data collection, organizing in situ observations in the field experiments (farm,greenhouse) and be familiar with Methodologies and Practices on Plant Breeding approaches. Furthermore, learn to analyze and explain genetic parameters from qualitative and quantitative data 3. Understand the priorities and set goals for the development of new varieties in plant species for covering the modern demands in agricultural production 4. Follow and analyze the data from the international literature related to Plant breeding 5. Be familiar to the desigh and applications of Plant Breeding Programs for give solutions into local and internationl problems related to agricultural food production

Course Content (Syllabus)
The role and history of plant breeding in Agriculture. Development and exloitation of genetic variability. Genotype x Environment interaction. (GGE Biplot Analysis). Intra and Inter Competiveness. Field Experimental Designs. Estimation of Genetic parameters. Genetic relationships, Inbreeding & Heterosis. Adaptability and plasticity in plant species. Principles & Methods in Plant Breeding Parent selection and population formation by hybridization. Methods of population breeding. Genetic male sterility for population improvement and hybrid development. Type of cultivars (pure lines, hybrids, half sib , ful sib, mixtures, populations, synthetic varieties). Selection schemes on plot or self plant basis. Mass selection, Pedigree slc. Pure line slc., Recurrent selection, Ear to row, Bulk selection. Backcross method. Mutation Breeding. Explopitation of haploids and aneuploids in Plant Breeding. Breeding for resistance to biotic and abiotic conditions. Organic Breeding. New Technologies in Plant Breeding (Reverse Breeding, Speed Breeding, GM Crops, Gene Editing) Design of plant Breeding programm and cultivar registration. Legislation and Breeder rights. Institutional framework and International Organizations for pattenting, consolidation and protection of plant cultivars (CPVO / UPOV, FAO, IFOAM, ISSTAA.
