Course Content (Syllabus)
This course deals with the basic concepts and issues related to the health system. As health is characterized by incomplete information and uncertainty, the need arises to form a separate branch of study. Health economics is a unique field; the course begins with an overview and continues with how the supply and demand for its services are shaped and the various specific issues of the field, which are analyzed through economic theory, such as inequalities, externalities, the asymmetry of the information and the unfavorable choice. The role and function of the hospital as a productive economic unit, demand, production and the cost of health services are also studied. Finally, the various models of health systems that prevail around the world are analyzed.
