Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, postgraduate students will be able to: 1. Use their knowledge to define the needs for following a standard or the gap for the creation of a new one in healthcare technologies 2. analyse the needs behind a healthcare technology problem and suggest standards to cover gaps and provide solutions in healthcare technology applications 3. explain the differencies between standards, guidelines and protocols 4. Exploit ways of developing or using technological systems and/or methodologies to apply standards in healthcare 5. understand new developments in the field of digital health and apply and evolve any regulatory framework related to medical devices. 6. understand and apply new methodologies for developing standardisation processes for healthcare

Course Content (Syllabus)
The goal of the course is as follows: 1. Raise the awareness of students with regards to concepts, technologies and methodologies behind the definition and the devlopment of standards for medical devices and data as well as information communication in healthcare informatics 2. Introduce them to standrads, guidelines and protocols as well as the worldwide committees available for these 3. Allow for the comprehension of a wide range of technologies and standardisation methodologies thorugh examples 4. Allow for the comprehension of standard examples and their application in healthcare, as well as, the professional routes for their future expansion. So, the content is as follows: Introduction to standardisation, standards, guidelines and protocols, and standardisation organisations Taxonomies/Codification/standards ISO processes Accesibility standards Medical device standardisation processes New standard models/Patient Engagement and involvement in new standards Interoperability standards LL-Medical Lexicon Digital medical education and e-learning standards Definitions, standards, nomeclatures and systems for biomedical technology products The DICOM standard/Medical imaging standardisation processes LOINC/knowledge discovery Presentation of project work and further discussions
