Learning Outcomes
The students after the completion of the course have to
-deepen their knowledge into the Ottoman history before Tanzimat, with emphasis on institutions and ideology
-read critically the relevant literature
-Select and successfully complete research, elaborating and writing an essay on a given topic
-familiarize themselves with the methodological tools of historical research

Course Content (Syllabus)
Weeks 1-3: General introduction to the topic. Discussion about the Ottoman wars and how these can be studied. Reference to sources about the wars. Students select a book from a list for presentation, which will be a lever for the topic of work they will deal with over the course of the semester.
Weeks 4th-8th: Presentations of selected books or articles are held and key issues of the period are discussed.
Weeks 9th-13th: Presentations of the draft of the essays that students have prepared during the semester.

Description
Lectures of the teacher and / or students' presentations can be done using powerpoint. The teacher's communication with the students will be done electronically, but also live, while their final evaluation will be done through the AUTh system.

Student Assessment
Description
Students are evaluated a) from their weekly attendance at the lessons, b) from the presentations of the books they make, c) from the drafts of the essays they present, and d) from the final essay they deliver at the end of the semester. The a), b) and c) are evaluated with 20%, while the d) with 80%.
