- be able to distinguish different types of materials according to their magnetic properties
- will have a comprehensive knowledge of the technological applications of magnetic materials

Theory Course: Study of the magnetic properties of matter and their connection with technological applications
Description of basic magnetic quantities and units
Description and interpretation of the phenomena of diamagnetism and paramagnetism
Introduction to the theoretical models of energy band magnetization and of micromagnetism
Description and interpretation of ferromagnetism and superparamagnetism
Description of magnetic material systems for technological applications
Materials for permanent magnets, soft magnetic materials, giant magnetoresistive and giant magnetostrictive materials
Laboratory Course: Magnetic Characterization of Materials
Magnetization measurements as a function of external field and temperature
Mössbauer spectra acquisition and analysis
Characterization of magnetic nanoparticles
