Course Content (Syllabus)
This course focuses on the ecosystem of social relationships in the early childhood education classroom and how the educator can support children and strengthen these relationships. Positive teacher-student interactions and building a quality relationship with each individual student is the key vehicle for supporting and empowering students. The framework of the course is based on three main pillars: a) understanding the value of the kindergarten teacher-student dyadic relationship, and what are the characteristics of a high quality relationship, b) developing strategies and skills to create positive relationships with each student and creating a positive classroom climate, and c) the principles of effective classroom management. The course offers the student the necessary theoretical support, contemporary research knowledge and practical guidance to utilize the principles of positive discipline and positive classroom management strategies and avoid exclusionary and negative discipline practices.
