Basic knowledge of Greek palaeography is required.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students can: 1.To get to know in depth all major and minor writing styles from the 4th-16th centuries and the characteristics of each writing style, as well as representative scribes of each style. 2. To get to know "circles" of famous manuscript writers and their collaborators and to be able to recognize them based on their graphic peculiarities. 3. To get to know famous scribes and their autograph codes, as well as professional manuscript scribes and recognize them by their writing style. 4.To get to know some anonymous scribes who have been identified as copyists of more than one manuscript and to try to create a "portrait" of each of them based on their time of action, their writing style and the texts they copied. 5. Το know the basic elements and units of a codex (parchment, paper, quires, watermarks, binding) and their evolution.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Presentation and analysis of dominant and minor styles of writing from the 4th-16th centuries: representative scribes of each style, "circles" of named manuscript scribes and their associates, named copyists of manuscripts and their autograph codices, professional copyists of manuscripts, as well as anonymous scribes who have identified as copyists of more than one manuscript, form and structure of a codex.

Description
The course examination will consist of short papers per thematic course unit, as well as a final paper dealing with individual topics of scribes and manuscripts from the 4th-16th centuries. It is noted that the students' workload is particularly increased because a large percentage of the secondary literature is in foreign languages.
