Learning Outcomes
This courses can guide the students to:
-know the reasons for the convening of the Holy and Great Council of Creta (2016)
- analyse the main synodical documents
-compare texts with a different theological or pastoral orientation
- interpret the reasons that led to the convening of the Council
- explain the reasons for the differences between the various Churches in relation to the Synod
- to make precise theological arguments on the main anthropological and ecclesiological themes of the Holy and Great Synod
Course Content (Syllabus)
Course content:
In the year 2016 the Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church was convened. This event marked a long period of preparation of the Orthodox Churches. During this period the synodal self-consciousness of the Orthodox Church was confirmed, which was sealed by the synodal processes during the convening of the synod in Crete in 2016. This course will highlight aspects related to anthropological and ecclesiological issues, as well as how to deal with important anthropological and pastoral issues, such as mixed marriages and the institution of fasting. It will also examine issues related to a number of confusions regarding the relationship of the Orthodox Church with the other Christian Churches. )
