Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines the literary genre of Ecclesiastical History, its sources and periods, types of historiography, authors (4th-21st centuries), and cultural imprints on Ecclesiastical History. -- Introduction -- The literary genre of Ecclesiastical History. Sources-periods -- Types of Historiography -- The principles of Christian Historiography -- Ecclesiastical History authors. Part A: The peak of Ecclesiastical Historiography (4th – 5th centuries) -- Ecclesiastical History authors. Part A: The end of Ecclesiastical Historiography (6th - 7th centuries) -- Secular Historiography (6th - 14th centuries) -- Imperial Chronicles (8th-14th centuries) -- The historiographic genre of Ecclesiastical History. Part A: (13th-15th centuries) -- The historiographic genre of Ecclesiastical History. Part B: (15th-19th centuries) -- The historiographic genre of Ecclesiastical History. Part C: (19th-21st centuries) -- Ecclesiastical History in the Roman Catholic and Protestant worlds -- Epilogue – Conclusions.
