Learning Outcomes
Τhe student: 1) practices the ‘architecture look’. 2) is introduced to the basic principles of design: form and function, form and structure, form and construction, form and meaning. 3) is introduced to the basic stages of design: intention, research, development of ideas, first study, design, construction, use. 4) explores the relationship between the concept and its implementation through the direct experience of the construction. Discusses the relationship between crafts and design values, the production of meaning through design. Explores the relationship between architecture and human needs and actions, as well as between architecture and its context. 5) investigates basic principles, ergonomy, construction, form, style, while being introduced to basic materials and construction techniques. Examines the relationship between 'temporary' and 'permanent' construction. 6) is introduced to the basic characteristics of a dwelling space.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The studio entitled «Introduction to Design 1» aims to the understanding and research on architectural design, the development of architectural creativity and the formulation and presentation of multiple architectural proposals, through a direct contact of the students with various means of expression and representational techniques, a familiarization with the various scales of design, an introduction to the organization of the built environment and a do–it–yourself construction of objects and models. Through a wide range of exercises, the course discusses topics such as thinking and practice in the built environment, abstraction and materiality, concept and construction, systematic design, discipline and free experimentation. Each student shall maintain a portfolio with all his/her exercises, reflections and recordings that will occur during the course, all of which will be evaluated in total.
