Course Content (Syllabus)
This Modern & Contemporary Art History survey course is a study and evaluation of the development of Modern & Contemporary Art and Artists. Τhe course begins with the origins of Modernism, and the art and artists involved, and then move chronologically through time uncovering the evolution of influences, themes, traditions and contradictions within historical, social, political, technological and religious context. Classes will include slide presentations, films, active participation & discussion, and writing exercises. Topics to be covered will include: Realism, Impressionism & Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism, Dada & Surrealism, Social Realism & Regionalism, the Bauhaus & de Stijl, etc.
