Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
• understand and use basic terms of clinical epidemiology (incidence, prevalence, hazard ratio, odds ratio, mean difference)
• be able to transform clinical cases into well-formulated research questions
• devise strategies for searching primary and secondary data in bibliographic databases
• understand the main types of studies (observational studies including time point, cohort and patient control studies but also interventional studies including randomized clinical trials)
• know the steps required for a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature for a clinical question
• be able to evaluate studies of diagnostic accuracy and become familiar with the corresponding measures (sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value, likelihood ratios)
• to make an overall critical assessment of the data (critical appraisal) and check the level of documentation of the medical recommendations (level of evidence)

Description
The evaluation of the course is carried out either by a written exam at the end of the semester through the e-learning platform, or by a written individual work on the subject of the course which is also delivered at the end of the semester. The choice of examination method is defined by the course coordinator.
During the written exam, the overall score is reduced to a percentage, taking into account that all questions are of equal value.
In the written exam, the overall mark is converted to a percentage, and the work is assessed on the examinee's ability to:
- Present basic introductory information (20%)
- Use appropriate language and terminology (20%)
- Present appropriate research sources (20%)
- Draws conclusions from the literature review (20%)
- Follow an appropriate structure in the text (20%)
