Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to learn the main metabolic pathways and their regulation mechanisms, as well as to understand of metabolism in the utilization nutrients to satisfy the energy need of cells, tissues and organs of the human body.

Glycolysis, tricarboxylic acid cycle, gluconeogenesis and their regulation. Oxidative phosphorylation. Pentose phosphate pathway. Glycogen metabolism and its regulation. Ethanol metabolism. Lipid metabolism. Fatty acids and ketone bodies metabolism and its regulation. Oxygen toxicity and free-radical injury. Synthesis of fatty acids, triacylglycerols, and major membrane lipids. Cholesterol metabolism and its regulation. Lipoprotein synthesis. Integration of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Protein digestion and amino acid absorption and fate. Urea cycle and its regulation. Synthesis and degradation of amino acids. Tetrahydrofolate, Vitamin B12, and S-Adenosylmethionine. Purine and pyrimidine metabolism. Intertissue relationship in the metabolism of amino acids. Integration of Metabolism
